Dedicated to Kiwi Earl, whose photographs from the Antipodes are always a source of inspiration.
I spent quite a time in this field of "red tubes" like we growers sometimes call the Sarracenia flava varieties such as rubricorpora and atropurpurea. In the field, things are quite complicated. Some strains look like they have not reached their full colour yet (although we were in July) while others tend to be a mix between the two varieties cited above and/or even with var. ornata.
The three last pictures show red plants that would fit with the description of Sarracenia flava var. atropurpurea.
The plants below, mere rubricorpora, were dark purple to my eyes and were certainly among the best looking plants I have seen that day. Sorry for the lack of focus. I am very disappointed with those last pictures.
Look at the two pitchers at the background. This is really what you would call a "purple tube"!
Let me end that post with the striking sight of an enthusiastic Socky ;-)
Oh François! Your dedication leaves me wonderfully moved. What a lovely thing to do.
ReplyDeleteAnd, to be able to see this wonderful flava site via your knowledge and your lens is a real treat.
Many thanks my friend!
Earl.
