The best cultivated Drosera ultramafica I have ever seen.

But it is not mine.
It belongs to an old friend who is arguably one of the very best sundews growers around: Jean-Pierre aka 'JP' or Marcel' as he nicknamed himself on the various forums.

Ten days ago, I payed Jean-Pierre a visit in order to admire his carnivorous plant collection and especially his Drosera. I was in awe when I stumbled onto this pot of Drosera ultramafica, an Asian  species I'm especially fond of. I was astonished when I found out that these plants are from seeds collected from a couple of plants I originally gave to Jean-Pierre many years ago! None of my own plants are nowhere as beautiful as Jean-Pierre's. I really like the growth pattern of the big plant here. I even first thought it was an old specimen of Drosera roraimae
It is always a special feeling when you discover that a plant you once casually gave to a friend now turns out to be a true thing of wonder. :-)

More sundews from Jean-Pierre soon...

  1. Can't wait for mine to reach that size, hopefully. So far it's spent all its time making plantlets from old leaves instead...
