Pterostylis curta, the blunt greenhood

I only grow one species of this intriguing genus, Pterostylis curta, also known as the Blunt Greenhood. It is blooming now. This orchid occurs in Australia and New Caledonia where there are other species from the same genus such as Pterostylis baptistii that I have quite recently seen in Meise Botanical Garden.

Basically, as far as I know, if you can grow tuberous Drosera, you can grow this kind of orchids. The flowers last a few weeks and although they do not display outrageous colors I really enjoy their shape and structure. They certainly make good companion plants for the carnivorous plant enthusiast or simply a new playground for any orchid afficionado.^^

My experience with these plants is very limited. Therefore, I will likely wait until I learn more about them before I purchase other species. There is a dormancy in summer during which the orchid tubers can be left in an overall dry soil or collected and kept apart. As for tuberous Drosera, the first watering after dormancy  is a key moment. Hopefully, I will be able to highlight these orchids on a regular basis on the blog.
